HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 10/06/1964BOARD OF SELECTMEN MEETING OCTOBER 6, 1964 The Board of Selectmen of the Town of South Burlington met on Tuesday, October 6, 1964 at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Municipal Building at 555 Dorset Street, South Burlington, Vermont. MEMBERS PRESENT Vincent J. D'Acuti, Chairman, Ralph B. Goodrich and Stephen Whittlesey. MEMBERS ABSENT Augustus T. Stannard and Waitstil E. Brown. OTHERS PRESENT William E. Mikell, Town Attorney and Irving L. Douglas, Town Manager. READING OF THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING The minutes of the meeting of September 22, 1964 were read, and approved as amended. RESURFACING AND REPAIRING WHITE PLACE The Town Manager explained to the Board of Selectmen that some of the catch basins at White Place needed to be relocated and that an additional amount of land should be procured in order to be able to build a proper cul de sac as this is a dead end street. The Town Manager did not have all of the information as to the costs and that he would report on this at the next meeting. REPORT BY BOARD OF SELECTMEN IN REFERENCE TO LAND FILL SITE Mr. Ralph Goodrich explained that he, Mr. Whittlesey and Mr. D'Acuti with the Town Manager inspected the land fill area. He believed that the Town should obtain an option from Daniel and Leo O'Brien and should purchase the adjacent property for future use as the rate of fill was using up the Town property very fast. The Town Manager was instructed to contact the O'Brien brothers to see if an option could be obtained on this area. PLANNING APPOINTMENT TO THE ZONING BOARD TO REPLACE ROBERT ASHLEY This item was tabled until the October 20th meeting. REPORT FROM PLANNING COMMISSION ON ZONING ORDINANCES The Town Manager explained that the Planning Commission will meet at 4:00 p.m. on October 20th and will make certain recommendations for changes to the Zoning Ordinances. TOWN MANAGERS REPORT ON VERMONT-NEW HAMPSHIRE TOWN MANAGERS MEETING The Town Manager reported that the Town Managers of Vermont and New Hampshire met in West Labanon, New Hampshire on Thursday, October 1, 1964 and there were 22 Town Managers present. The main topic for discussion was "SUB-DIVISION RULES AND REGULATIONS". REPORT BY TOWN MANAGER REFERRING TO SEPTEMBER 4, 1964 MEETING WITH PERRY MERRILL OF THE VERMONT PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT The Town Manager explained that he had been invited to a meeting at Montpelier in reference to Park and Recreation land areas and also that he had been invited to a meeting to be held on November 9, 1964 with the Governor's Council. This meeting pertains to the Purchase of Park and Recreation plans and how the State and Federal Government will participate in the development of these areas. The Board of Selectmen authorized the Town Manager to attend these two meetings. It was suggested that Mr. Lamson, Chairman of the Recreation Committee, accompany the Town Manager to the meeting in Montpelier on November 9th. MEETING TO BE HELD AT THE BURLINGTON CITY HALL ON OCTOBER 19, 1964 The Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, Vincent J. D'Acuti, advised the Board that there was to be a meeting in the Burlington City Hall, October 19th at 7:00 p.m. in reference to TRAFFIC PROBLEMS ON SHELBURN ROAD. The Board members, Chief of Police, Town Attorney and the Town Manager are invited to attend this meeting. The Town Manager was instructed to send a notice to all members of the Board of Selectmen, Town Attorney and Planning Commission.
