The South Burlington Cemetery Sextants held a meeting on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.,
at the Shelburne Rd cemetery
MEMBERS PRESENT: P. Taylor, D. Kinville, T. Chittenden
Others Present: Justin Rabidoux, SB Public Works; Michael Simoneau
1. Shelburne Rd fences
T. Chittenden arranged a meeting with the sextons and Justin Rabidoux from Public Works to walk
the perimeter of the Shelburne Rd cemetery to access the fence damage and the ability of the public
works department to repair the current fence.
There was conversation around the swale and the Sexton’s desire to have something done with it. P.
Taylor asked if it could be a stormwater pond. J. Rabidoux thought that it could and questioned if this
was a bigger project than just fixing the fence and clearing brush and if the sexton’s vision of this
cemetery could fit into the City’s comprehensive plan.
M. Simoneau suggested that we move the fence lines in to grant snow removal ability to the abutting
properties, grant an easement to those properties and obtain funding from them for the repair or
replacement of some of the fence. This was met with mixed feelings from the sextons but will be
discussed at a future meeting.
2. Other business
D. Kinville mentioned a grant that she just found out about for the Building Better Communities. The
vision would be to have an educational display of the cemetery, benches and signage for the
cemetery. After a discussion on whether to proceed with the grant, D. Kinville will bring the grant
application and city council approval forms to the next called meeting for discussion and possible
approval.
3. Adjournment:
As there was no further business to come before the committee the meeting was adjourned by
common consent at 2:55 p.m.
