JOINT MEETING OF SOUTH BURLINGTON CITY COUNCIL and
SOUTH BURLINGTON PLANNING COMMISSION

Regular Session 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012
1. Agenda Review: Additions, deletions or changes in order of agenda items.
2. Introductions:
a. Each Councilor and Commissioner may express their personal vision for the city; and,
b. One thing each Councilor and Commissioner would like to see accomplished during his/her
term.
3. City Council Priorities:
a. Brief overview of Council's 2012 priorities
b. Chairs of each of the four Interim Zoning-related task forces/committees explain their specific
vision, goals, and priorities
c. Planning Commissioners' responses/comments.
4. Joint discussion of suggested ways to promote goals of Interim Zoning.
5. *** Planning Commission presentation of their vision and goals related to the Comprehensive Plan
and any feedback by City Councilors and possible Council approval.
6. Discussion of a process for sharing views and ideas and suggestions on furthering our mutual goals.
7. Action items and a timeline for accomplishing these.
8. Next Steps:
a. Regular meetings between chairs and vice-chairs (discuss frequency)?
b. Regular City Council and Planning Commission joint meetings (discuss frequency)?
9. Comments and questions from the public not related to the agenda.
10. Other Business.
11. Consider entering executive session for discussion of personnel matters and litigation (if needed).

South Burlington City Council Meeting Participation Guidelines
City Council meetings are the only time we have to discuss and decide on City matters. We want to be as open and
informal as possible;but Council meetings are not town meetings. In an effort to conduct orderly and efficient
meetings,we kindly request your cooperation and compliance with the following guidelines.
1. Please be respectful of each other(Council members,staff,the public).
2. Please raise your hand to be recognized by the Chair. Once recognized please state your name and address.
3. Please address the Chair and not other members of the public,staff,or presenters.
4. Please abide by any time limits that have been set. Time limits will be used to insure everyone is heard and
there is sufficient time for the Council to conduct all the business on the agenda.
5. The Chair will make a reasonable effort to allow everyone to speak once before speakers address the Council a
second time.
6. The Chair may ask that discussion be limited to the Councilors once the public input has been heard.
7. Please do not interrupt when others are speaking.
8. Please do not repeat the points made by others,except to briefly say whether you agree or disagree with others
views.
9. Please use the outside hallway for side conversations. It is difficult to hear speaker remarks when there are
other conversations occurring.

a vibrant sense of community.
GOALS OF THE COMMUNITY

Goal 7. Support a diverse and vibrant economy built on quality jobs,employment centers and
a supportive educational and research system;
Goal 8. Encourage a wide diversity of large and small scale agriculture throughout the city
and support markets for local agricultural products;
Goal 9. Prioritize development that occurs within the community into areas served by existing
infrastructure,generally consisting of the Shelburne and Williston Road corridors,City
Center,and others identified within this Plan;
