Saturday, April 26, 2008 1) Consideration of approval of amendment on Article III on the Warning for May 20, 2008 city meeting. 2) Adjourn Respectfully Submitted: ( I tok- -.--' Charles Hefter, City Manager WARNING CITY OF SOUTH BURLINGTON ANNUAL CITY MEETING MAY 20, 2008 The legal voters of the City of South Burlington are hereby notified and warned to meet at their respective polling places at the Chamberlin School on White Street, the Frederick H. Tuttle Middle School on Dorset Street and the Orchard School on Baldwin Avenue on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at 7 o' clock in the forenoon, at which time the polls will open until 7 o' clock in the afternoon, at which time the polls will close, to vote by Australian Ballot on the following Articles : ARTICLE I ELECTION OF OFFICERS To elect all City officers required by law. ARTICLE II APPROVAL OF CITY BUDGET Shall the City adopt the City Council ' s proposed budget for FY 2008-2009 totaling $19, 142, 974 . 00 of which it is estimated $9, 084, 353 . 00 will be raised by local property taxes? ARTICLE III EXPENDITURE OF CITY SALES TAX REVENUES Shall the voters allocate not more than $724, 000. 00 of revenue from the City sales tax collected during the period July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2017 to fund a portion of the cost of salaries and benefits of six (6) firefighter/emergency medical technician personnel to be hired during FY 2009, provided the City is awarded a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant from the US Department of Homeland Security, in a minimum amount of $632, 000 . 00, payable to the City over a period of four (4) fiscal years commencing July 1, 2008? A chart showing annual income and expenditures for the cost of six firefighter/emergency medical technician personnel if this Article is approved and the grant is received is available for review on the City' s Web Site, www. sburl .com. and at the City Offices at 575 Dorset Street during normal business hours. ARTICLE IV PROPOSED INCREASE IN DISABLED VETERAN' S PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION Shall the voters approve an increase from $20, 000 of appraised value to $40, 000 of appraised value in the property tax exemption available for a veteran of any war or a veteran who has received an American Expeditionary Medal, his or her spouse, widow, widower or child, or jointly by any combination of them, if one or more of them are receiving disability compensation for at least 50 percent disability, death compensation, dependence and indemnity compensation, or pension for disability paid through any military department or the veterans administration, all as authorized by 32 V. Donna Kinville, City Clerk son08-003.for 2 RESOLUTION AMENDING CITY OF SOUTH BURLINGTON ANNUAL CITY MEETING WARNING WHEREAS, on April , 2008, the City Council approved the warning for the City' s annual meeting to be held on May 20, 2008; and WHEREAS, the City Council included in said warning the following article: ARTICLE III EXPENDITURE OF CITY SALES TAX REVENUES Shall the voters allocate not more than $724, 000. 00 of revenue from the City sales tax collected during the period July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2017 to fund a portion of the cost of salaries and benefits of six (6) firefighter/emergency medical technician personnel to be hired during FY 2009, provided the City is awarded a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant from the US Department of Homeland Security, in a minimum amount of $682, 000 . 00, payable to the City over a period of four (4) fiscal years commencing July 1, 2008? and WHEREAS, said article refers to a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant from the US Department of Homeland Security, in a minimum amount of $682, 000. 00; and WHEREAS, the minimum amount of "$682, 000" set forth in the article is incorrect and should, instead, be "$632, 000"; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council that said article be amended to provide for a minimum amount of $632, 000 and that the annual meeting warning, as amended, be approved and promptly posted. • Dated at South Burlington, Vermont, this day of April, 2008 .
