MEETING
NOV. 16, 2009
Present: Jamie Heinz, Joan Jarvis, Howard Goldberg; Tom Hubbard, Recreation Director
Meeting called to order 6:40 p.m.
Review of meeting with airport officials. Tom, Joan, and City Planner, Paul Conner, met
with Brian Searles and Brad Worthen this afternoon to discuss the potential for
designating a location for a fenced-in dog park on land now owned by the airport as part
of the Land Purchase Program.
The parcel of land located at the northern end of Kirby Road Extension was the location
that was discussed, and the airport staff indicated their willingness to consider this parcel
for the dog park. Airport staff will consult internally and look to confirm their agreement
in the near future. The initial granting of the parcel will probably be in the form of a
license agreement for a certain period of years.
The airport also indicated they may allow use of a part of the two-car storage garage on
the road for our use in storing supplies, and will investigate a bit to see if there is any
fencing that they might be able to provide for the property to assist with our efforts for
the dog park.
The outlook is very positive, and we will await the go-ahead from the airport. Next steps
will involve attorney review of formalized agreements, and City Council approval. The
property will need to be surveyed and some basic grading and site work will be necessary
with the assistance of Public Works. If all goes well, DPW could help with installation of
fence in spring and the dog park could be officially opened for summer 2010. The City
Manager has committed to providing funds necessary for fencing to make the facility
operational.
Meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
Respectfully,
Joan Jarvis, Secretary
