Produce - At the present time, our plant in Burlington produces only hamburg,
hot dog, and dinner rolls. Because of space limitations, our bread
products are baked at the Bouyea Baking Co. in Plattsburgh, N.Y.
Future plans are to incorporate facilities at this new plant to enable
us to bake bread as well as rolls.
Distribute - Big Boy, Home Style, Old Vermonter Oatmeal, Sourdough Italian,
and other breads.
Freihofer Bread, Cakes, Pies, Donuts and Pastries.
Table Talk Pies
Koffee Kup Bread & Rolls (outside of Chittenden County)
Fassetts bakes rolls for its own routes and for Bouyea Baking Co. in
Plattsburgh, Millbrook in Albany, N.Y., United Baking in Schenectady, N.Y.,
and Fortin Bakery in Hemingford, Canada. We also service McDonalds,
Burger King, Red Barn, Lums, and most of the chains.
36 Wholesale Routes
18 Burlington, Vt.
10 Manchester, N.H.
1 Albany, N.Y.
2 Keene, N.H.
4 Rutland, Vt.
1 Concord, N.H.
5 New wholesale routes are planned this spring for the Manchester, N.H.
division.
The eighteen Burlington route trucks leave between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. five
days a week. They return to the bakery anywhere between 11:30 a.m.
and 5 p.m. A map of our distribution area is included. Approximately
50% of our sales dollars come from out of state. Approximately 60°0 of
the products that Fassetts produces are sold out of state.
Five days a week our three trailers leave for New Hampshire and Rutland
about midnight. They return to the bakery between 6-9 p.m. One
trailer leaves for Albany about 10 a.m. and returns about 8 p.m.
We receive two trailers from Plattsburgh ( 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.). We also
receive one trailer from Millbrook about 2 p.m. These two trailers
from Plattsburgh and the Millbrook trailer spend about one hour at our plant.
The following is an employee breakdown by department and the average working
hours in the Burlington plant:
18 Route Salesmen 4 a.m. - 2 p.m.
4 Sales Management 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.(2) 4 a.m. - 2 p.m. (2)
1 Spare Salesman 4 a.m. - 2 p.m.
7 Office 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
2 General Management 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
7 Shipping 5 p.m. - 3 a.m.
12 Maintenance & Sanitation 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
18 Production 2 a.m. - noon
2 Thrift Store 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
3 Tractor Trailer Drivers 12 a.m. - 8 a.m.
74
Employee breakdown by department outside of Burlington:
2 Office
17 Route Sales
3 Sales Management
7 Fresh & Thrift Store
In addition, Fassetts has about 5 part-time employees.
We wish to re -locate in South Burlington for the following reasons:
1. Our present plant on North Winooski Avenue is not of sufficient
size to permit the addition of new bakery machinery to keep
abreast of product demand. In addition, compliance with proposed
future federal regulations relative to the food industry would
be difficult to implement at our present location.
2. Railsiding available to permit receiving ingredients (flour, sugar,
shortening) in bulk.
3. Proximity to the interstate system.
4. Route 7 would be a good location for our thrift store. Our
store located next to the Volkswagon agency on Route 7 averages
50 customers per day. We expect this to increase to 100 customers
per day.

I discussed with the Vermont Highway Department the location
of the above referenced project as to a conflict with the
proposed South End Connector Extension.
They stated that the new highway location does not conflict,
except possibly for the entrance drive.
We will have plans for the Committee's review this Thursday,

WILLIAM J. SZYMANSKI
I have reviewed the anticipated water and sewage usage
for the above referenced project and find it acceptable.
The water used for truck and equipment washing must also
be discharged into the sanitary sewer. Grit and grease traps
must be installed before discharging into the system.
The location of the -building will require sewage to be
pumped either to Shelburne Road or Bartletts Bay Road.

The Commission feels this use is not in keeping with the character
of the surrounding area. Further, if grantee, this use could set a
possibly irreversible trend toward similar automotive oriented uses
in the future on nearby properties.
With regard to layout and access, the Co_nnission will be setting
access conditions aimed at the eventual goal of one major access for
the Morgan and Racine properties. The attaches sketch conceptually

The Comma s s ion has no a6ver s e co=i - ient s on the ba':er as a us

impact of the proposed retail outlet, as .ell as the relation of the
access to properties across the street, and the Southern Connector.

As you recall, during the first meeting with the Zoning
Board of Adjustment on March 20, the Board wanted more
specific data on the water and sewage consumption of the
proposed plant in South Burlington. My client has prepared
the necessary data and I have enclosed 6 copies for your
file and distribution to the members of the Board.
I have already conferred with Bill Szymanski in con-

connection with these facilities.
