Richard Ward, Zoning Administrative Officer March 29, 19816. N w 3! 74A Shunpike Road So. Burlington, Vt. 05401 April 9, 1986 City of South Burlington Zoninct Administrator Dorset Street South Burlington, Vt. 05401 Dear Sir, This letter is being sent to you to in regards to Mr. & Mrs. Thomas Tavares's request to the board for a zoning variance. Specifically, the variance is for the construction of a detached garage that has a studio apartment on the second floor. My family and I have known Tom and Nancy since we moved onto Shunpike.Road nearly three years ago. Because of this we believe that they drew up the plans for this building with the best interests of the neighborhood in mind. Tom has shown me where on their property the building would be and how it would tie into the design of their existing home. We even spent some time last weekend discussing different landscaping schemes that would be best for this property. While my family does not live next door to Tom and Nancy, we still have a vested interest in any zoning matters pertaining to Shunpike Road. I would like to let the Zoning Board know that I and my family do not have any reservations whatsoever with the idea of a garage and studio apartment as Tom has de- scribed it. I am,sure that it will enhance the overall value of our street. S'ncerely yours, / James M. McQuide CC: Tom & Nancy Tavares City of South Burlington Att: Richard Ward Zoning Administrative Officer 1175 Williston Road South Burlington, Vermont 05401 74B Shunpike Road South Burlington, Vermont 05401 April 4, 1986 Dear Mr. Ward: We are aware of the fact that Thomas M. Tavares has filed an appeal seeking a variance from Section 18.00, Dimensional requirements and Section 18.112 Dwelling standards of the South Burlington Regulations. It is our understanding that Mr. Tavares wants to build a double car garage with a second story studio apartment on his property which is adjacent to ours. We are pleased with Mr. Tavares' plans and have no objections to his appeal to the Board of Councilmen. Sincerely, _ Allen and Lynn Currier City of South Burlington Zoning Board of Adjustment 575 Dorset Street South Burlington, Vermont 05401 April 3, 1986 To Whom It May Concern: I live next door to the Tavares family on the southern side of their property. This is the side of their lot on which they plan to build the garage/in-law apartment on. The Tavares' have physically shown me where the structure would be located which is in line with their exist- ing driveway. Since the Tavares' have moved in, they have added an addition with an attached deck which has noticeably improved the appearance of their home. I feel that the garage being built would have the same aesthetic and design features of their house and would tie in very nicely. The concept of the Tavares' proposal is a sound one and I have no ob- jections regarding this project. Cordially, C;ItA-L& Connie D . Weems
