BRIEF NARRATIVE:
On July 23, 2018 Chief Whipple and Detective Pope were on Kennedy Drive when they observed a
vehicle fail to navigate a turn onto Dorset Street. The vehicle drove onto a dividing median, and struck a traffic sign. The vehicle drove over the sign, causing the vehicle to become stuck for a brief time. After becoming free, the vehicle continued north on Dorset Street and did not stop for the crash. The crash caused significant damage to the traffic sign. Chief Whipple and Detective Pope were able to
initiate a traffic stop on Aspen Drive with the vehicle. After the vehicle pulled over and came to a stop,
the operator put the vehicle in reverse, and backed directly into Chief Whipple’s police vehicle. There were no injuries in either crash.
Investigation revealed the operator of the vehicle, Marlene Hart, age 59, of Hinesburg, was operating the vehicle while under the influence. She provided a preliminary breath sample which resulted in a .324%
BAC. She is due in Chittenden Superior Court on August 9, 2018 to answer the charges of DUI #2 and
leaving the scene of an accident.
