NARRATIVE:
On April 10th, 2019 at approximately 2:05 AM a female suspect attempted to rob the Maplefields convenience
store located at the intersection of Williston Road and Kennedy Drive. At the time of this attempted robbery
Officers were already “on the lookout” for a female suspect driving a silver car who had robbed, at gun point,
another convenience store in Colchester just two hours earlier.
The South Burlington investigation found that the female suspect entered the Williston Road Maplefields and
produced a handgun which was out of the clerk’s sight. The suspect demanded the money from the register,
the clerk left the store without complying with the suspect’s demands. The suspect fled the store as the clerk
used her cellphone to call 911.
A University of Vermont Police Officer spotted a car similar to the suspect vehicle in the Colchester robbery in
the area of Hinesburg Road and Kennedy Drive contemporaneous to the South Burlington attempted robbery.
This vehicle was followed to Shelburne Road near the Burlington City limit where it was stopped by Officers from
South Burlington PD, UVM PD, and Burlington PD. Investigation found that the female suspect was one of the
occupants in the car stopped. The Officers were able to confirm the identity of the suspect at the scene of the
traffic stop with attempted robbery video footage from the Maplefields.
Theresa Marking (22YOA) of Essex Junction was arrested and subsequently identified as the female sought in
both the South Burlington and Colchester incidents. Investigating Officers later conducted a Court ordered
search of the suspect vehicle which found an article of clothing that Marking wore during the commission of the
crimes in addition to a replica Glock BB pistol. Marking was later arraigned on one count of Attempted Assault
and Robbery for her involvement in the South Burlington incident. The investigation is ongoing and additional
charges are expected.
