NARRATIVE:
On Thursday January 31, 2019 at approximately 11:06 AM the South Burlington Police Department
received numerous 911 calls regarding a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Shelburne Road
near McIntosh Avenue.
South Burlington Police arrived on scene and located a male who had been struck by a Tractor Trailer.
The male had a suffered a serious injury to the lower portion of both his legs. Acting Sergeant Pat
Mulcahy applied a tourniquet to the injured male’s leg preventing what medical staff advised could
have been serious long-term injury. The male was treated by South Burlington Fire Personnel on scene
and transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center. The injured male’s condition was not
known at the time of this release but his injuries were not fatal according to medical staff.
Everyone involved cooperated fully with the investigation. Although the investigation is in its infancy it
appears that the pedestrian was crossing Shelburne Road against the control signal. At this time there
is no evidence to suggest speed, impairment, or anything other than the crosswalk violation
contributed to this crash.
The investigation is ongoing and if anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact
the South Burlington Police Department (802) 846-4111, specifically Officer Nick Holden.
