Miscellaneous Application Submittal for Alternative Compliance for Building Entrances
Dear Marla,
Please find enclosed the Miscellaneous Application for the Hampton Inn and Suites Project. This
application is being submitted to request a review and determination by the South Burlington
Development Review Board (DRB) regarding eligibility of the Project to utilize the provisions of Article 8
Section 8.06 H of the South Burlington Land Development Regulations for Alternate Compliance for
Entrances within the T4 Form Based Code District. This application is being submitted in advance of the
site plan applications for the Project as the above determination has potential to impact both building
and site plan layout. We hereby request to be placed on the agenda for the December 4, 2018 DRB
meeting.
In support of the DRBs review under Section 8.06H (3), the applicant offers the following description of
the proposed approach to building entry points for the Hampton Inn Building:
Glazed entrances have been provided along the North, East and South facades as allowable for the hotel
uses in these spaces. The exterior doors facing East toward the new connector street can fully engage
with the streetscape to provide unimpeded access to hotel guests and the public at large as well as the
main hotel entrance facing North towards the Holiday Inn. The security of guests is of paramount
importance in the hotel industry and visual control of the doors facing the new connector street can be
accomplished from the front desk for greeting, interaction, and controlled access to private guestroom
sleeping areas. The hotel doors facing South towards Williston Road can provide all important visual
and physical access for an engaging street presence. Direct public access at these Williston Street doors
can be provided to registered hotel guests via electronic card key and the public may enter these doors
at will when accompanied by a hotel guest. Other glazed entrances are provided but are designated for
employee use only and will not be accessible to hotel guests nor the general public.
