RE: Ability to Serve Cider Mill Phase II, South Burlington, VT
Dear Bryan:
In response to your request dated March 28, 2018 for information regarding the capability of Champlain
Water District (CWD) to supply water to the referenced proposed project, we submit the following:
1.The water supply requirement of 66,420 gpd for this proposed project can be furnished by CWD
without restricting or encumbering its present users on the CWD supply system.
2.Water is supplied to the referenced area via locally‐owned distribution mains within the City of
South Burlington. Capability of the local water distribution system must be verified by the local
water system official.
3.Existing water storage is provided by the 2.1 MG South Burlington East Tank (SBET) off of Dorset
Street in the City of South Burlington. CWD’s Water Storage Ta nk Policy stipulates that the served
system is responsible for providing the required local volumes of water storage. Therefore,
adequacy of local water storage volume must be verified by the local water system official.
4.It is our understanding that the highest finished floor elevation (FFE) is 437’+/‐ with a maximum
of two stories. The SBET low operating level is 515’ (430’+85’). Assuming 20’ for a two‐story
structure the pressure at the very top of the second story would be 25 psi [(515‐437‐20)/2.31].
Per the Vermont Department of Public Safety Division of Fire Safety, the current adopted code is
the International Plumbing Code (IPC), 2015 Edition. The 2015 IPC requires 20 psi minimum for
toilets (“water closet, tank, close coupled or one piece), which is the controlling factor for
establishing the minimum required pressure for internal plumbing (assuming the toilets do not
have flushometer valves). Given that the pressure at the top of the second story is estimated at
25 psi there would be adequate pressure to accommodate the proposed development.
5.This letter of availability is only for the source of water supply requirement based upon the
condition that the structures have a maximum FFE of 437’ with a maximum of two stories per
structure.
6.This letter of availability is valid for a three‐year period commencing on today’s date and ending
on April 19, 2021.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.
Sincerely,
CHAMPLAIN WATER DISTRICT
