Special Meeting to Discuss Local Option Tax
Minutes
Meeting Convened at 5:35 PM
1. Welcome
2. Instructions on exiting building in case of emergency.
3. City Manger Dorn presented background on the local option
tax, details, options and the timeline that the City Council
will be discussing and possibly voting on 1/22/19.
4. The Committee discussed wording on the Ballot Warning.
5. The Committee discussed the impact of additional taxes on
economic development and the city’s growing reputation as a heavily taxed community.
6. The Committee discussed the proposed rental car tax.
Manager Dorn emphasized that this is not a tax on the airport
car rental agencies but on all car rental agencies in South
Burlington.
7. Motion made by Michael Albertson: The Committee cannot
support the current option tax and other revenue raising
mechanisms presented to us by the City Council without additional information/time to research the potential impact
on Economic Development these proposals will have.
Motion passed by unanimous vote.
8. Motion by the Chair: To support the proposal for a tax on auto rentals at 2%, not “up to 5%” as the current proposal
suggests.
Motion passed by unanimous vote.
9. Adjourn: The Committee adjourned at 6:55 pm. Next regularly scheduled meeting: January 28, 2019 at 5:30 pm.
