Allowable square footage of signs at 340 Dorset Street:
We are permitted currently for oval signs on the buildings.
This information will help you with the right size signs for our property as allowed in the
Master Sign Permit.
We are allowed up to 5% of the principal public facade of the building per tenant for
signage. The total 5% of that surface area, once calculated can be divide and used for 2
signs on the building.
Here is an example:
Joe Donnally new building:
Front facade of building is 510 sq.ft. x. 05 (5%percent) = 25.5 sg. ft allowed in total.
Calculating Actual Area of Ovals:
Joe Donnally's sign measuring 46" x 58" has square footage of 14.3 sq.ft
Calculated the following way:
a x b x pi (3.14) = area of oval
46" = 3.8` ft. = 1.9
58" = 4.8` ft. = 2.4
2.4x 1.9x3.14= 14.3sq. ft.
Joe's total allowable signage square footage is: 25.5 sq.ft. in total , he can divide that
amount into 2 signs, one for the front and one for the side of his building.
He is using 14.3 with the larger sign, that means he has 11.2 sq.ft remaining for the
other side of his building.
He could have a second sign that measured: Tx 4.5' = 10.59 sq.ft
14.3 sq. ft Big sign
10.59 sq_ft. Smaller sign
24.89 total is under limit of 25.5 sq.ft. for your building.
