ESTATE INVESTMENT ADVISORS Founded in 1990 20 Years of Strategic Advice MEMORANDUM To: Ray Belair From: Stephanie Hainley Date: July 16, 2013 Re: Shearer Acura - Service Canopy Sign Application Per Section 10 of the City of South Burlington Sign Ordinance, the Shearer Acura dealership building is limited to a maximum of 2 wall -mounted signs (per Table 10-1, page 25), totaling 100 square feet (per Section 10(b)(1), page 23). The measurement of l these signs conforms to the following definition of sign area: "The basis for the area of the sign [with cut-out letters] shall be computed by taking one-half the area enclosed within the smallest regular geometric figure or figures needed to completely encompass all letters, including vertical and horizontal spacings between letters" (page 3-4). There are two signs currently on the southern facade of the Acura building - one at the entrance to the showroom and one at the service area entrance. The showroom sign "Shearer Acura" is 13.5 SF. (A rectangle around letters measures 27 SF - one half of which is 13.5 SF.) This application does not propose any changes to this sign. This application proposes to move the service area entrance sign from the south facade to the east facade, on the service canopy. A rectangle around the "Acura Service" letters measures 20.07 SF - one half of which is 10.04 SF - as shown on the attached plan. The total wall -mounted signage for this building is 23.54 SF, which complies with the maximum square footage allowed for this building.
