The Open Space IZ Committee held a regular meeting on Thursday, November 14, 2019, at 7:00 pm, in
the second-floor conference room, Police Station.
Members present: Vince Bolduc, Meaghan Emery, Duncan Murdoch, Allan Strong, Sam Swanson, and
Tami Zylka. Absent members: Alyson Chalnick, Bernie Gagnon, Amanda Holland, Sophie Mazowita, and
Betty Milizia.
1. Directions on emergency evacuation procedures from conference room:
Allan called the meeting to order and provided instructions on emergency evacuation of the
building.
2. Additions, deletions or changes in order of agenda items:
Allan suggested that the meeting be a working meeting and include the identification of the top ten
parcels.
3. Comments from the public not related to the agenda:
No public comments were made.
4. Identification of top ten parcels:
In order to identify the top group of ten parcels that Kevin Dorn had requested, Sam suggested that
we consider corridors, and Vince suggested an approach that spread them out through the city.
These criteria guided the committee’s consideration of the parcels, and Allan will send the list to
Kevin Dorn.
5. Review parcel descriptions:
Allan asked the committee to review twenty-five parcels for accuracy. The boundary lines of some
also appear changed and are now confirmed. Duncan passed along a request from Monica Ostby for
the Committee to consider areas that might be appropriate for reforestation projects. Committee
members agreed that river corridors without vegetation would be prime candidates for this type of
activity.
6. Adjourn:
The meeting adjourned shortly after 9:00pm.
