Minutes
Meeting Called to Order at 5:35 PM
1. Welcome
2. Instructions on exiting building in case of emergency.
3. Agenda Review: Additions, deletions, or changes in order of agenda items.
Addition to the agenda: City Manger Kevin Dorn requested that the Committee
discuss land development/zoning issues and how they impact economic
development. Committee discussed how that might best be addressed and the
concern that current regulatory framework is stifling economic growth in the
City. No action taken. Discussions to continue.
4. Comments and questions from the public not related to the agenda: There were
no comments from the public.
5. Reviewed City Comprehensive Plan section C, Economy: Reviewed objectives
and strategies listed as they pertain to the Economic Development Committee
and it’s role. Ideas exchanged on what the Committee can and/or should do.
Committee noted that in most cases there is no measurement/criteria for
judging the success/failure of individual objectives in the Comprehensive Plan.
Discussed how this could/should be addressed.
Chair motioned that each Committee member prepare and share with the
Committee one or two Objectives with suggested strategies and means of
measurement.
Motion passed by unanimous vote.
6. Discussion of Committee Role: Advocates or Ombudspersons? No decision
made. Discussion to continue.
7. Reviewed Sources of Economic Data and Methods of Collection: State
Department of Labor, Secretary of State and private sources of information.
What can we get? How can we use it?
8. Discussion: March Agenda
9. Other Business: A short discussion of Opportunity Zones in SB and what role
they play in economic development.
10. Adjourn: The Committee adjourned at 7: 13 pm. Next meeting scheduled for
February 25, 2019.
