HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Board of Civil Authority - 08/12/2014BOARD OF CIVIL AUTHORITY August 12, 2014 The South Burlington Board of Civil Authority held a meeting on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at 6:30 p.m., in the Conference Room, City Hall, 575 Dorset Street. Members Present: P. Taylor, Chair; D. Kinville, P. Nowak, B. Nowak, P. Benner, T. Harrington, L. Vera, A. Pugh, B. Burgess, and M. Emery 1. Minutes of August 6, 2014: Ms. Harrington moved to approve the Minutes of August 6, 2014 and P. Benner seconded. Motion passed unanimously. 2. Agenda Review: None. 3. Comments and questions from the public not related to the agenda: None. 4. Discuss Policy of eligibility of election officials to work the polls Tabled until a future BCA meeting. 5. Approve Presiding Officers and Election Officials: Presiding officers for the upcoming election were presented as follows: Agnes Clift at Orchard School (District 7-1) Chuck Bolton at Tuttle Middle School (District 7-2) Peter Taylor at Tuttle Middle School (District 7-3) Bill Burgess at Chamberlin School (District 7-4) Ms. Nowak moved to approve the presiding officers and election officials as presented. Mr. Benner seconded. Motion passed unanimously. 6. Approve Voters Removed from Checklist and Review New Voters: Members of the board stated that they liked the reason a person was removed from the voter checklist on this report. Ms. Nowak moved to accept the list of voters to be removed from the checklist as presented. Mr. Benner seconded. Motion passed unanimously. BOARD OF CIVIL AUTHORITY, 20 FEBRUARY 2014, PAGE 2 No list of new voters was available due to state wide voter checklist being down. This is not a requirement of the Board and is presented for their information only. 7. Election Training: Ms. Kinville explained that there will be 4 ballots. The voter will be given all 4 ballots but may vote only 1 and place the 3 un-voted ballots in the black bins next to the tabulator There will be provisional ballots and telephone voting for this election. The Secretary of State’s office has said that there really should be no provisional ballots issued and if a voter does not qualify to vote then have them call the Secretary of State’s office prior to handing out a provisional ballot. Ms. Kinville then explained how to handle absentee ballots, including what to do if the 3 un- voted ballots is not returned. 8. Testing of Election Tabulating Machines: Members tested all tabulating machines, they were found to be recording correctly and the following seals were attached. 7-1 #02513 7-2 #02323 7-3 #02445 7-4 #2289 As there was no further business to come before the Board, Ms. Vera moved to adjourn. Mr. Burgess seconded. Motion passed unanimously, and the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. ____________________________________, Clerk
