HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee - 03/21/2018 BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN COMMITTEE MINUTES 3-21-2018 The Bicycle and Pedestrian commiee held it’s regularly monthly meeng during the third, rather than the second week of the month due to commiee member conflicts. The meeng was held at 5:30 pm in the smallconference room at the city office building. Members Present: Dana Farr, Chair; Cathy Frank, Vice Chair; Donna Leban, Shawn Goddard, Amanda Holland,Jim Grossman Members Absent: Jamieson Goodwin, Clerk; Bob Bri; Roy Neuer City Representave: Cathyanne LaRose, City Planner Also Present: Andrew Bolduc, Town Aorney Meeng began at 5:35 1. Welcome and Emergency Procedures 2. No changes in the agenda 3. Approval of prior minutes- a) Review minutes from 2/14/18. Minutes unanimously approved 5:40 Cathy F. moved to move into execuve session 6:25 Cathy F. moved to end execuve session, Shawn seconded Updates: Cathy Larose- Burlington doing a “payment in lieu of…” with some properes that are required to placebike racks and then using the money for public space bike racks. -There is work in process to establish an urban design overlay district on Shelburne and Williston Rd tocreate more of an urban feel. -Micro apartments, approximately 4-500 sq . will be built over the parking lot behind McDonalds onShelburne Rd. -Some property owners have expressed concern over having bike racks at their businesses. Perhaps we should track their specific concerns to see if there is a paern to the concerns. -We have an opportunity to put an arcle in SOBU Life magazine. Dana will provide bullet points for the arcle by 3/25 and the arcle by 4/1 as the magazine has requested. - Amanda and Cathy parcipated in a city bike mapping project with CCRPC. - The City Council has requested that we provide brief personal statements about ourselves to go along with pictures for the web site. - We will use a bikeped commiee email address for the public to contact individual biceped commieemembers and it will be forwarded to individual members. -BikePed Website was discussed. A city employee is in charge of it and a bid process was held for a webdesigner. Concern over the number of steps it takes to get to desired locaons was expressed. Coralee is the point of contact regarding the web site for the city and we will contact her in regard to addions and deleonsto the site. Addional discussions were held about the best ways to reach our informaon on the site. We agreedto have a Test Challenge and ask friends to look at the bikeped site and to see how to get informaon. Examples of types of informaon we would like to use the website for: ballot item coming, bike sharingcoming…. 4) Community Support Iniaves Arcles need to be wrien for the Other Paper Amanda- May 1. We should all look at the potenal arcles document and everyone should sign up forat least one 5-600 word arcle. The list is suggesons and can be augmented. Send to Dana for approval and signs Markeng: Pop-ups and signs. AARP grant for p4p is handed in, we should know by the end of March if we get the 3,000. The grantincluded leers of support from Locomoon, 2 energy commiee members and the town manager. Mapping: We viewed the layered hill map of the Cider Mill secon of SB that had been made by commiee member Amanda Holland and includes populaon measures of the impact of the bikepath. Project cost updates: should have by summerme Bonding: no updates Rec Path history: no updates General Maers: Donna referenced AARP arcle themed “Why people who don’t ride bikes should appreciate bike lanes.” Can we get this arcle into the Other Paper? Donna met with an AARP representave who is supporve of our work. He informed Donna about apotenal 10,000 grant due May 16. If we received the grant, perhaps we could use it for one crossing. Weshould talk with Jusn about possible projects. The energy commiee wants to promote bike commung. How can we link up with their website? Donna also said that the South Burlington Business Assoc (SBBA) has a website and that we would needtheir boards’ permission to put informaon on their website. Meeng was concluded at 8:25 These meeng minutes were approved by the Commiee on April 11, 2018.
