MINUTES 3-21-2018
The Bicycle and Pedestrian commi ee held it’s regularly monthly mee ng during the third, rather than the
second week of the month due to commi ee member conflicts. The mee ng was held at 5:30 pm in the smallconference room at the city office building.
Members Present: Dana Farr, Chair; Cathy Frank, Vice Chair; Donna Leban, Shawn Goddard, Amanda Holland,Jim Grossman
Members Absent: Jamieson Goodwin, Clerk; Bob Bri ; Roy Neuer
City Representa ve: Cathyanne LaRose, City Planner

Mee ng began at 5:35
1. Welcome and Emergency Procedures
2. No changes in the agenda
3. Approval of prior minutes-
a) Review minutes from 2/14/18. Minutes unanimously approved

Updates:
Cathy Larose- Burlington doing a “payment in lieu of…” with some proper es that are required to placebike racks and then using the money for public space bike racks.
-There is work in process to establish an urban design overlay district on Shelburne and Williston Rd tocreate more of an urban feel.
-Micro apartments, approximately 4-500 sq . will be built over the parking lot behind McDonalds onShelburne Rd.
-Some property owners have expressed concern over having bike racks at their businesses. Perhaps we
should track their specific concerns to see if there is a pa ern to the concerns.
-We have an opportunity to put an ar cle in SOBU Life magazine. Dana will provide bullet points for the
ar cle by 3/25 and the ar cle by 4/1 as the magazine has requested.
- Amanda and Cathy par cipated in a city bike mapping project with CCRPC.
- The City Council has requested that we provide brief personal statements about ourselves to go along
with pictures for the web site.
- We will use a bikeped commi ee email address for the public to contact individual biceped commi eemembers and it will be forwarded to individual members.
-BikePed Website was discussed. A city employee is in charge of it and a bid process was held for a webdesigner. Concern over the number of steps it takes to get to desired loca ons was expressed. Coralee is the
point of contact regarding the web site for the city and we will contact her in regard to addi ons and dele onsto the site.
Addi onal discussions were held about the best ways to reach our informa on on the site. We agreedto have a Test Challenge and ask friends to look at the bikeped site and to see how to get informa on.
Examples of types of informa on we would like to use the website for: ballot item coming, bike sharingcoming….
4) Community Support Ini a ves

Amanda- May 1. We should all look at the poten al ar cles document and everyone should sign up forat least one 5-600 word ar cle. The list is sugges ons and can be augmented.

AARP grant for p4p is handed in, we should know by the end of March if we get the 3,000. The grantincluded le ers of support from Locomo on, 2 energy commi ee members and the town manager.
Mapping: We viewed the layered hill map of the Cider Mill sec on of SB that had been made by
commi ee member Amanda Holland and includes popula on measures of the impact of the bikepath.
Project cost updates: should have by summer me

Rec Path history: no updates
General Ma ers:
Donna referenced AARP ar cle themed “Why people who don’t ride bikes should appreciate bike
lanes.” Can we get this ar cle into the Other Paper?
Donna met with an AARP representa ve who is suppor ve of our work. He informed Donna about apoten al 10,000 grant due May 16. If we received the grant, perhaps we could use it for one crossing. Weshould talk with Jus n about possible projects.
The energy commi ee wants to promote bike commu ng. How can we link up with their website?
Donna also said that the South Burlington Business Assoc (SBBA) has a website and that we would needtheir boards’ permission to put informa on on their website.
