Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, July 30, 2013
5:00 PM
South Burlington Municipal Offices, 2nd Floor Conf. Room

Members present: Sandy Dooley, Gretchen Calcagni, Eric Farrell, Larry Michaels, Jim Knapp, and John
Simson.
Members absent: Ken Schatz
Also present: Cathyann LaRose, City Planner
The meeting was opened at 5:00 pm.
Staff asked the Members to offer thoughts for organizational structure, including chairmanship.
Sandy Dooley nominated John Simson to be Chair. Jim Knapp seconded this motion. Motion
passed unanimously. Members agreed that there was not a need for other positions.
Members asked that all meetings be voice-recorded.
Cathyann LaRose agreed to take minutes for the meetings, noting that they will likely only be
able to hit upon key discussion points and not every thought, such that Staff participation could
still take place.
Members agreed that their goal would be to serve as the advocates for Affordable Housing in
the South Burlington bylaws.
Members reviewed examples of other communities utilizing a form based code with
affordability incentives. These included Jamestown, RI; Ridgeland, SC; and Miami, FL.
Members spoke via conference phone with Paul Dreher, the City’s Form Based Code Consultant.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, August 6 at 5:00 pm.
