HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Library Board of Trustees - 01/11/2024 - Board of Trustees Approved Minutes South Burlington Public Library Board of Trustees The South Burlington Public Library Board of Trustees held a regular meeting on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 5:30 p.m., in the Library Board Room, and by Zoom participation. Members Present: Theresa Eiermann, Kevin Morgenstein Fuerst, Lauren Ballard Hatch, Anne Gilson LaLonde, Holly Painter, Stacey Pape, Rebecca Stazi, Donna Swartwout, Penelope Tompkins, Margery Vagt Members Absent: Ted Lenski Staff Members & Guests Present: Kathryn Plageman, Sue Raatikainen 1. The Chair called the meeting to order at 5:30 pm 2. Library exits were reviewed. The chair provided instructions on emergency exit from the building. 3. Additions and deletions to the posted agenda None 4. Comments and questions from the public not related to items on the agenda None 5. Approval of regular board minutes of December 14, 2023 Upon a motion made by Trustee Anne Gilson LaLonde and seconded by Trustee Holly Painter, the Trustees voted unanimously to accept the minutes of the December 14, 2023 Board of Trustees Meeting. 6. Staff Introduction – Kathryn Plageman, Circulation Librarian The Chair introduced Kathryn Plageman, who currently serves as the Circulation Librarian. Kathryn has worked at the SBPL for 23 years. She described the time during the pandemic as very rewarding giving out books to patrons. In the new space, she sees new people everyday and people are amazed at the size of the space and the clock. Kathy said she loves reading and talking with people who come to the library. The door to her office is never closed! 7. Report Outs A. Chair Report The Chair reported that Director Jennifer Murray is out sick. Jennifer expressed appreciation for the holiday gift. The Trustees expressed how lovely the Display of Things is when you enter the library. The Chair reported that snacks for the teen space have been distributed. At a future meeting, the MOU with the City will be reviewed. The Chair reported that the City is reviewing the personnel & regulations manual. It was also noted that the it has been hard to find subs to schedule and volunteers to assist at the library. This is a good idea to promote. Given the size of the building it is important to have appropriate levels of staffing. The Chair and all of the trustees reiterated how fortunate we are to have such an incredible library staff. Other items to be discussed were tabled for the next meeting, when Jennifer is present. B. Friends of the Library Report Bookshop: $683.76 in December Booksale: April 11-13, 2024 (National Library Week) Story walk: To be installed late summer/ early fall Friends 2024 Concert Series, 12-1 in the Auditorium VSO Ensemble, cello and flute, Jan 27 Va-et-Vientiane, Franco-American Roots, Feb. 24 Evans/Asbell Jazz Duo, Mar. 23 Caribbean Rain, Jamaica folk tunes, April 20 C. Committee Reports Communications Committee No meeting in December; no report. Finance Committee No meeting in December; no report. Governance Committee No meeting in December; no report. South Burlington Public Library Foundation Foundation Director, Penne Tompkins reported that the annual appeal to date has raised $10,700. The goal was $10,000 and 100 donors contributed to the appeal (some new and some repeat). The foundation is working on a strategic plan and donor relations (maybe a quarterly newsletter). Trustee Rebecca Stazi suggested sending the Read Local clings to donors to say thank you. D. Director’s Report No report at this time 8. Other Business: None 9. Adjourn Seeing no other business, the Chair adjourned the meeting at 6:05 pm.
