HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Planning Commission - 07/25/2023SOUTH BURLINGTON PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES 25 JULY 2023 The South Burlington Planning Commission held a regular meeting and public listening session on Tuesday, 25 July 2023, at 7:00 p.m., in the Auditorium, City Hall, 180 Market Street, and via Go to Meeting remote technology. MEMBERS PRESENT: J. Louisos, Chair; M. Mittag, D. MacDonald, D. Leban, L. Smith, F. McDonald ALSO PRESENT: K. Peterson, City Planner; S. Dopp, M. Simoneau, N. Senecal, T. Doyle, L. Marriott, J. Belevance 1. Instructions on exiting the building in case of an emergency: Ms. Louisos provided instructions on emergency exit from the building. 2. Agenda: Additions, deletions or changes in order of agenda items: Approval of the minutes was removed from the Agenda as they had not been included in the meeting packet. 3. Open to the public for items not related to the Agenda: No issues were raised. 4. Planning Commissioner announcements and staff report: Additional listening sessions will be held on 27 July at noon, 29 July at 10 a.m., and 1 August at Noon, all in the Community Room of the Library. 5. Public Listening Session on the City Plan 2024: Ms. Louisos reviewed the nature of the City Plan and explained the name change from “Comprehensive Plan.” She said it lays out the long-term city vision and goals. It is updated and adopted every 8 years; however the plan looks further into the future than that. Some elements of the plan (e.g., the Energy Plan) are required by State law. Ms. Louisos then showed a power point of elements of the plan including the 4 Guiding Principles. She reviewed the preparation of the plan and noted that the plan is now in an informal draft state. An official draft will be presented at a formal public hearing before being SOUTH BURLINGTON PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES 25 JULY 2023 forwarded to the City Council in October for their public hearing and approval by February 2024. Ms. Louisos then explained the Land Use Map and noted that in some residential areas there will be an allowance for some small-scale commercial, and in some traditionally Industrial- Commercial areas, there will be the potential for some residential use. Ms. Louisos noted that the public can make comments in person or by mail or directly to Planning Staff at City Hall. Ms. Peterson said all comments are due by 2 August. Public comment was then solicited and was recorded by staff for discussion by the Planning Commission. Following the public comment session, members reviewed their participation in the future comment session. 6. Other Business: No other business was brought forth. As there was no further business to come before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned by common consent at 7:55 p.m. ___________________________________ Clerk
