5:21 p.m. Call to Order
5:22 p.m. Additions or deletions to the posted agenda
Jennifer Murray added a discussion of the Collections Development policy, specifically,
Reconsideration of Materials.
5:23 p.m. Comments and questions from the public not related to items on the agenda
None
5:23 p.m. Approval of March 21, 2023 minutes ACTION
Stacey Pape moved to approve the minutes and Anne Lalonde seconded the motion. The
motion passed unanimously.
5:28 p.m. Discuss the use of waiver(s) for the Library of Things
Jennifer Murray spoke with the city attorney who said all waivers must be signed. Jennifer
suggested adding a line to the library card application, but Anne Lalonde did not think it would
be sufficient for current card holders as it would not apply retroactively. Stacey Pape suggested
patrons sign a waiver when they check out items.
5:33 p.m. Review the Social Media Policy
A social media librarian has still not been hired, so the committee will table the discussion until
October.
5:34 p.m. Review the bylaws
Stacey Pape is waiting for a response from the South Burlington Library Board of Trustees, so
the committee will review the bylaws at the next meeting.
5:36: p.m. Collection Development Policy Review
Jennifer Murray asked the committee consider residency status and how long the decision of
the SBPL Board of Trustees should should stand. The committee agreed to change make the
following changes to the Collection Development policy:
“Should persons from residents of the South Burlington community wish further consideration
to recommend the removal of a particular item from the collection, they may submit a “Request
for Reconsideration of Library Materials” (see below).”
“The Board’s vote determines the final settlement decision of the matter on that challenged
material and no additional requests for reconsideration may be filed regarding that material.
The library will retain or withdraw challenged materials as mandated by the decision of the
Library Board of Trustees.”
5:52 p.m. Discuss the process of working with the City Council to select new Board of Trustee
Members
The committee will revisit this discussion after the next city council meeting.
