Advocacy Committee meeting minutes from February 16, 2023 were approved unanimously, based on a motion from Holly Painter, seconded by Penne Tompkins. Advocacy Projects Rack card: Communication of the library’s goals: The “rack card” project was discussed previously by the Advocacy Committee and at the trustee meeting March 9. The trustees gave direction to not combine the strategic plan information with the fundraising information about the Foundation, but rather do two cards for the different purposes, with the first priority being the card providing the Library’s strategic plan high level goals as approved October 14, 2022. The audience for this card is library users and we expect its primary location to be at the library. Based on a review of other cards on display in the library, the dimensions for the card were confirmed to be 4” wide by 8.5” high. Design and copy: the card will be two-sided with lots of photos of people, for sure, on the front and people and possibly spaces on the back. Front copy will include an intro paragraph and then the approved strategic plan statements. The back copy will be highlights of some of the programming and possibly some recent stats which Jennifer will provide. Holly will take photos or photos from previous events may be used. The committee’s goal is to get the card ready in a month, provided all elements are ready. An inexpensive graphic designer is available for the project. Communications Planning Framework The working session on this item was tabled until April when Rebecca can lead the group. Upcoming Amplification Opportunities Jennifer reported that there is a new volunteer putting up program and event posters in the area surrounding the library. Holly has been putting up flyers ay UVM. Otherwise, the campaign to get broad-based help from trustees to spread flyers around the city/area is a work in process. Stacey will start a list of likely places where posters might be placed and then share it with the broader group to get more ideas and commitments. Jennifer will provide flyers via email as PDF’s to make it possible for trustees to print themselves or if requested, the library staff will print these. Jennifer will continue to share issues of importance to Vermont libraries or libraries in general for which trustee comment or support are helpful. Meeting adjourned at 7:05 Minutes respectfully submitted by Penne Tompkins
