4:35 p.m. Approval of November 3, 2022 minutes ACTION
Anne Lalonde made a correction and motioned to accept the minutes; Margery Vagt seconded
the motion and it passed unanimously.
4:48 p.m. Review Social Media policy, First Aid policy, and Library Use policy
First Aid policy:
Jennifer Murray noted the policy will be city wide and the committee will wait for guidance from
the city.
Social Media Policy:
SBPL currently posts on both Facebook and Instagram. The Advocacy committee encourages
using social media to engage with the community. SBPL policy follows American Library
Association Freedom of Speech guidelines, and the committee discussed if comments from the
public can be moderated without violating freedom of speech. Jennifer Murray will discuss this
with the staff handling social media and the committee will continue this discussion at the next
meeting.
Library Use Policy:
The committee discussed changes to fines, fees, and reimbursement for lost or overdue items.
Library director will determine loan periods, borrowing limits, and the point at which items are
considered lost. SBPL will adhere to the ADA policy with regards to service and companion
animals. Anne Lalonde will make changes to the draft policy and the committee will vote to
approve it at the next meeting.
5:54 p.m. Discuss creating job descriptions for members of the Library Board of Trustees
Jennifer Murray said the SBPL Board of Trustees should have a description of the expectations of
LBOT members, including meeting requirements, Foundation requirements, and additional
committee work. The work of trustee members is to set policies and work with the director to
set the annual budget. Margery Vagt will construct a job description which the committee will
discuss and vote to approve at the next meeting.
