HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Dog Park Committee - 09/09/2008 DOG PARK COMMITTEE MINUTES SEPTEMBER 9, 2008 The South Burlington Dog Park Committee met on September 9, 2008 in the small conference room at City Hall. PRESENT: Lisa Ventriss, Jamie Heins, Joan Jarvis, Claire Williams, Howard Goldberg ALSO PRESENT: Tom Hubbard, Recreation Director Meeting called to order at 6:35 p.m. Tom reported that 214 surveys have been received to date and that 23 t-shirts have been sold. Lots of people came by the Dog Park Committee booth at the South Burlington Fire Department Open House. The conversations were overwhelmingly positive. Some of the comments also reflected that the committee was doing a great job with this project. There are approximately 870 dogs now registered with the city, the most in any year to date. Claire had agreed to write an article about the dog park and the t-shirt fundraiser for The Other Paper. Tom will check with her regarding status of this. As mentioned at our previous meeting, an email will go out to all folks who have indicated on the survey that they'd like to be involved with efforts for the dog park. The email will contain a brief summary of where we are in the process, and also include a link to the web site with all the committee minutes. Tom asked attending committee members if they minded having their emails published as part of this email to folks, and everyone in attendance indicated it would not be a problem. Site Analysis update Local engineering firm Krebbs & Lansing has submitted a proposal for the site analysis at the landfill area off Patchen Rd. The proposal indicates that some of the technical work that needs to be done, as part of the environmental analysis, would need to be farmed out to a third party who has worked with the state on these types of projects before. We hope to have a final cost and breakdown at our next meeting. The next steps in the process include the following: Approval to conduct the site analysis Presentation& Review of the site analysis Approval to proceed further with site location Preliminary Design& Budget Preparation Formal presentation to City Council Phase II Discussion: Fundraising- Lisa suggested coming up with 5 businesses or individuals that would welcome contact for future and solicitation funding. Members were asked to continue to promote the sale of t-shirts. Need to develop costs for specific items within the dog park. Rules- A draft of the rules from Howard with revisions from Lisa was discussed. Tom requested Lisa re-send the proposed rules to the committee members for their final review. Operations- Recruiting volunteers for the park. Tom suggested asking Chuck Brodsky to the October meeting for his advice and information on developing a plan for recruiting and scheduling volunteers based on how it is done at the Starr Farm dog park in Burlington. Next meeting October 14th or possibly the 21st if necessary. Invite Chuck Brodsky for volunteer recruiting input, and Bill Nedde for Site Proposal review. November meeting is scheduled for November 11. Meeting adjourned at 7:50 pm. Respectfully submitted, Joan Jarvis, Secretary
