NARRATIVE:
On the listed date and time South Burlington Police responded to a report of a domestic assault in
progress, specifically a male was chasing a female with a knife at the Grandview condominiums.
Officers arrived on scene and located the female victim. This victim advised that her former partner,
Manuel Vasquez 33 YOA of South Burlington, had forced his way into her residence. Once inside a
physical confrontation ensued at which time Vasquez armed himself with a kitchen knife. Vasquez
subsequently chased the victim out of her residence which prompted a neighbor to call 911. It was
reported that Vasquez had gone back in the victim’s condominium where her children were.
Officers were able to safely check the residence for Vasquez where they only found the victim’s children,
Vasquez had apparently fled. Vasquez was located a short time later on Williston Road and was taken
into custody. Once in custody Vasquez threatened to give the police a reason to shoot him and resisted
efforts to place him in in the cruiser. Vasquez was lodged with the Vermont Department of Corrections
without further incident.
Vasquez is currently being held for lack of bail and will be arraigned today in Chittenden Superior Court –
Criminal Division. Although the prosecutor will make the charging decision the affidavit filed includes
felony charges of; First Degree Aggravated Domestic Assault, Burglary, and Unlawful Restraint.
