Citation issues – May 27th, 2021 – Aggravated Cruelty to an Animal and Arson
NARRATIVE:
On 03/21/2021 at approximately 2051 hours South Burlington Police and Fire Departments
responded to the Holiday Inn at 1068 Williston Rd for a report of a fire in the woods.
Responding officers learned that Dujuan Williams, 26, of South Burlington had lit his pet rat on
fire. Upon being lit on fire, the rat ran into the woods, causing the wood line to catch fire. The
South Burlington Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire preventing its spread into the
wooded area which is proximate to the hotel structure.
During the course of the investigation officers determined that Williams had custody of two
additional pet rats. In collaboration with the City’s Animal Control Officer Williams voluntarily
relinquished custody the remaining pet rodents.
Williams was issued a citation to appear in Chittenden County Superior Court on Thursday, May
27th 2021 at 0830 hours to answer to the charges of Aggravated Cruelty to an Animal and
Arson: Setting Fires.
