Whipple, Chief of Police SOUTH BURLINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE PHONE: 846-4111 INCIDENT #: 18SB008788 FAX #: 846-4102 INVESTIGATING OFFICER: Officer Bellavance & Corporal Johnson APPROVING SUPERVISOR: Sergeant Matthew Plunkett DATE/TIME: August 10, 2018 | 3:55 am INCIDENT TYPE: Disorderly Conduct, Retail Theft, Resisting Arrest and Arrest on a Warrant BRIEF NARRATIVE: On August 9, 2018 around 9:53 pm the South Burlington Police Department responded to Interstate Shell located at 1055 Williston Road for the report of a theft and fight in progress. When officers arrived, the suspect had fled the area. Witnesses stated a male stole a six pack of beer and then engaged in a fight with the night cashier when he was confronted about the theft outside of the business. Officers located a male matching the description of the suspect a short distance away. Investigation revealed this male to be responsible for the theft and disorderly conduct in the parking lot. The male was identified as 29-year-old Joel Cione of Burlington, Vermont. Mr. Cione had an active warrant for his arrest. When officers attempted to take Mr. Cione into custody, he resisted. Mr. Cione was lodged at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility for the active warrant and was issued a citation to appear in court on August 14, 2018 at 8:30 am at the Superior Court of Vermont, Criminal Division to answer to the charges of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and retail theft.
