Whipple, Chief of Police SOUTH BURLINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE INCIDENT TYPE: Violation of Conditions DATE/TIME: June 16th, 2018 @ 4:00pm INCIDENT #: 18SB006582/16SB006613 Investigating Officers: Sgt. Mills/Corporal Bliss PHONE: 846-4111 FAX: 846-4102 BRIEF NARRATIVE: On June 15th, 2018 Officer were dispatched to Shelburne Road in the area of Panera Bread Restaurant and Beacon Apartments on a report of an intoxicated male lying in the active roadway. The responding officers located a male, Michael H, Barber 48yoa of South Burlington lying in the roadway. Barber had active conditions of release stating he was not to buy, have, or consume alcohol. As the officer tried to assist Barber out of the roadway he became combative. He was finally removed from the roadway and placed in the back of a cruiser and then transported to the South Burlington Police Department. Once back at the police department it was determined Barber was highly intoxicated. He was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center for evaluation. Once released from the hospital Barber was transported to the Chittenden County Correctional Facility in South Burlington. Barber was lodged at the facility for the charges of Disorderly Conduct and violation of Conditions. Barber was scheduled to appear in court on Monday June 18th, 2018 for these charges. On June 16th, 2108 at 1:30 pm the South Burlington Police Department received the same call in the same area as the previous day. Upon arrival officers located Barber on the front lawn of Panera Bread restaurant. The officer immediately observed Barber had consumed alcohol and was again intoxicated. Barber was again placed under arrest for violation of conditions. Barber provided a PBT and was found to have a BAC of .283. Barber was transported back to the South Burlington Police Department. A Judge set the same conditions in effect and added a bond of $200.00 and ordered Barber to appear in the Vermont Superior Court House in Burlington, VT on Monday June 18th, 2018 for the additional charge of Violation of Conditions of release.
