BRIEF NARRATIVE: On May 5th 2018 at around 1948 hours, South Burlington Police observed a vehicle in the parking lot of Lowes at 189 Hannaford’s Drive with an expired registration sticker. Officers were familiar with the operator from prior contacts. South Burlington Police Dispatch confirmed that the operator, William Sweeney, 29 years of age, of St. Albans had active arrest warrant. Officers initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle on Shelburne Road. The male initially identified himself as his brother but after speaking with Officers on scene, admitted he was William. He told Police he lied because he knew he had a warrant. William Sweeney was issued a citation to appear in court on May 8th 2018 to answer for the charge of False Reports to Law Enforcement. He was then transported to Chittenden Regional Correctional Center to be lodged on the warrant.
