BRIEF NARRATIVE:
On April 10, 2018 at approximately 2:25 am, South Burlington Police were dispatched to an apartment building on Farrell Street for a report of two subjects attempting to force entry into an apartment. The complainant advised the individuals had fired a BB gun while trying to force entry. Upon arrival, officers found no persons present in the area but observed a 9mm shell casing on the floor in front of the apartment and a bullet hole in the door casing. Officers made contact with the complainant, who was inside the residence with her infant child, and verified their safety. The victim identified one of the suspects as Julie Desautels, 27 y/o of Winooski, VT.
Desautels was apprehended a short time later by Winooski Police Department in the City of Burlington, at
which time she was processed for DUI and subsequently transported to UVM Medical Center for a related
blood draw. Desautels was arrested by South Burlington Police shortly after being released from the hospital.
Desautels admitted to having been at the victim’s residence in South Burlington at the time of this incident,
and identified the other involved party as Cameron Tilley, 18 y/o, also of Winooski. Tilley was located and
apprehended on outstanding warrants by Winooski Police later that morning. A bullet was recovered from the wall at the victim residence, and a video of the incident was captured by a security camera in the hallway of the locked apartment building on Farrell Street. Investigation revealed the firearm used in the incident was likely stolen from a motor vehicle earlier that morning, and the vehicle operated by Desautels in the DUI was seized by SBPD in advance of an application for a search warrant. Desautels was lodged at Chittenden Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail and is expected to appear in Chittenden District Court on April 11, 2018 at 8:30 am to face charges of Burglary and Aggravated Disorderly
Conduct. Tilley was lodged at Chittenden Correctional Facility of $7,500 bail and is expected to appear in
Chittenden District Court on April 11, 2018 at 8:30 am to face charges of Burglary and Reckless
Endangerment.
