Upon arrival responding Officers encountered Daniel Williams, 33 YOA, of South Burlington. Williams was armed with several knives and a destructive device commonly known as a “molotov cocktail”. Williams reported to Officers that associates of his were being held hostage in his nearby apartment, Officers noted that several of Williams’ statements were nonsensical. Williams was detained without incident. Additional human resources were brought to the scene at which time Williams’ apartment was identified and searched. The apartment was found unoccupied but Officers discovered oil and other materials which were likely used to construct the destructive device Williams was in possession of. Given the evidence observed, Officers discerned that the device was likely benign. During the course of this investigation Patchen Road was temporarily closed, area apartments were evacuated, and a local day care center was on lock down. Officers attempted to get Williams assistance for his apparent mental crisis status. Williams was refused services because of a reported drug history and lack of formal mental health diagnosis. Williams was subsequently arrested and charged with the above listed crimes. Williams was ordered held for lack of $20,000 bail and will be arraigned later today. #END#
