Need: My family has out grown the existing structure. If we ao not expand we would have to move at greater expense than to build an addition. RESPONSES TO THE 5 CRITERIA: 1- The existing house is 39 feet from Airport Drive and 27 feet from White Street. The existing garage is 6 feet closer to Airport Drive. To build a new garage 17 or more feet back from the face of the existing garage would be totally unpieasing aesthetically as it would leave the existing garage and its roof line totally unincorporated with the rest of the structure visually. 2- To build a new garage at the prescribed distances from either the Airport Drive or White Street sides of the house would greatly change the nature of the lot usage as the garage would intrude significantly into the backyard. 3- We, the owners, did not build or design the existing structure or any portion of it. 4- The proposed construction would not alter the character of the neighborhood because their is no change in the usage of the property (it will remain a single family dwelling). Aesthetically, it is the most desirable plan because it keeps to a minimum the number of roof lines thereby appearing to be what it is (a single family dwelling) rather than a collection of roof lines and wall surfaces that would appear more like a multi use structure (apartment, condo, or business). There would be no effect on adjacent properties as we would not be building any closer to Airport Drive or the Morse's property to the West than what already exists. The addition would move us closer to the northern boundary but still more than 50 feet from it. Please note the letters from the two home owners who would be most affected by these proposed changes. 5- It is necessary to maintain the roof line as has been stated for aesthetic reasons, but also for structural value. A second story window would be blocked by any change in the roof line backwards. Tearing down the existing garage and building the entire area of new rooms and garage is financially out of the question. As can be seen by the attached drawing, the proposed addition is compact and does not change the nature of the lot usage.
